Where to Trek in Andaman?

Elephant Beach at Havelock Island

The 2 km trek to the Elephant beach from Radhanagar is through the tallest of ancient trees.
The permitted timings are 7 am to 3 pm, after which the beach stays closed.

Lime Stone Caves at Baratang Island

Baratang Island is famous for its mangroves, tropical jungles, Jarawa tribe of Andaman, mud volcanoes and of course one of nature’s wonders – the limestone caves. The trail travels through a mangrove forest followed by a paddy field, before you set foot in the caves. The authorities have taken extreme care of taxonomically naming every significant tree in the path.
Baratang Island is located about 100 km from Port Blair, you can either take a ferry from Port Blair or cover the distance by road, which might take up to 3 hours.

Mount Harriet National Park

An exotic national park situated at Port Blair, Mount Harriet National Park is set at a height of 383 meters and spread across an area of 46 square kilometers. One can see Andaman wild pigs, turtles, and robber crabs here.
Mount Harriet to Madhuban Trek

The rocky terrain stretching from Mount Harriet to Madhuban makes up for a challenging trail. This 10 mile trek takes you through lush evergreen tropical jungle. It boasts a wild collection of several species flora and fauna. Bird watchers will love the captivating sight of the exotic endemic birds.

Mahatma Gandhi National Park

Located near Wandoor Beach at Port Blair, Mahatma Gandhi National Park is popular for its colorful marine life, lively coral reefs, and snorkeling sites. It is also a great place for Trekking. There is a diverse variety of flora and fauna here as well as some of the endangered species such as the water lizard, wild boar, and sea snakes. This national park is spread across as many as fifteen islands and it features marvelous mangrove creeks and tropical rain forests as well.
Timings: Tuesday to Sunday – Open 24 Hours. Closed on Mondays

Chidiya Tapu (Munda Pahad Trek)

Known for its gorgeous sunset, serene beach, and the Munda Pahad viewpoint trek, Chidiya Tapu is a great place to visit when you are in Port Blair. This trail brings the perfect blend of wilderness of the jungle and serenity of the coast line together. One can witness the incredible view of Rutland as well as some of the other islands at a distance.

It’s advisable to travel in large groups or hire a guide for this rough terrain. The stretch of black cliff at Kala Pahad is one of the best places to watch sunset in Andaman. The open seascape makes the entire trip to the island worth it.

Saddle Peak National Park

Spanning across an area of 85 square kilometers, Saddle Peak National Park is located in the northern part of the Andaman District. Here, you can spot rare species of flora and fauna such as the wild pig, Andaman hill myna, imperial pigeon, water monitor lizards, and saltwater crocodiles. There is an eight-kilometer-long beautiful trek from its entry to the mountain peak. People of all age groups can visit this national park and have a good time.

North Button Island National Park

Long Island is the nearest town to North Button Island National Park. It is located at a distance of 60 kilometers. You can reach the national park by hiring a boat service from Long Island. Set up in the year 1987, the island is known for its deep blue waters of the Bay of Bengal. It is also known for its spotted deer population. Reptiles like water lizard and monitor lizard flourish here in abundance. The North Button Island National Park also has blue whales, sea turtles, dugong, dolphins, and other beautiful fishes as well.
