Andaman Islands FAQs
A union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands consist of as many as 572 islands. Of these, only 38 are inhabited. The islands are located nearly 150 kilometers north of Aceh in Indonesia separated from Myanmar and Thailand by the Andaman Sea. The two island groups comprised in it are the Andaman Islands and the Nicobar Islands separated by 150-kilometer wide Ten Degree Channel (on the 10°N parallel).
Port Blair is the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is divided into three districts, South Andaman, North and Middle Andaman and Nicobar District.
Residents of India or Indian nationals can simply fly to Port Blair, the capital city of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, via Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, or Mumbai. There is direct connectivity of daily flights.
Foreign nationals will be first required to fly into mainland India. Chennai and Kolkata would be the best points of entry as from here, you can reach Port Blair via a direct flight.
From Chennai, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam, ships to Port Blair also ply on fixed schedules. However, tickets have to be bought well in advance and the journey is of three days which can be quite monotonous as the ships are not luxurious at all and have minimal facilities.
